  Dentists/Dental Surgeons (Regulated):

Work prospects are rated GOOD because:

  • The practice of dentistry is regulated in Canada . In order to practice this profession or use the title of dentist or dental surgeon, you must be licensed as a member with one of the provincial/territorial regulatory bodies. These bodies set the standards for entry into the profession of dentistry and for issuing licenses to those who meet the established standards of qualifications and practice. Once you know where you will settle and work, you should contact the appropriate regulatory body for information on licensing procedures.

  Licensure Requirement

To obtain license from state or local jurisdiction, you must get a certificate by passing an examination known as NDEB (National Dentist Examination Board).

Since colleges only from Canada and USA are accredited, as such an overseas dentist will be under the category of non-accredited dental colleges, so they will be required to take up a short term qualifying program to become eligible for examination. After passing the eligibility examination, you need to complete qualifying program.

Graduates of dental programs from outside Canada who wish to obtain further information about qualifying programs at Canadian Universities and the eligibility exam for the qualifying programs should contact the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry directly. To start the process for certification, please contact the ACFD directly at the below address.

Specialty Certification

The Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC) offers examinations in all the recognized dental specialties in Canada. The Federal Government of Canada established this College in 1965 to promote high standards of specialization in the dental profession, to recognize properly trained dental specialists. This is accomplished through examinations created specifically for each dental specialty. Successful completion of the RCDC specialty examination may lead to Fellowship in the College and the use of the designation FRCD(C).
